Be Glad the Hard Times Are Upon Us!

If you ever had a hard-driving athletic coach, these and other phrases will probably bring back memories and might even summon his screaming face back into view:

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going!"

"Show me someone who loses and laughs, and I'll show you a loser!"

Vince Lombardi, legendary Green Bay Packers coach, said there's something in "good men" that loves a struggle. You're being beaten up on the playing field, bruised and bloodied, but you give the game all you have, exhausted as it ends, but you WIN!

Or, you may have heard it this way: "Winning isn't everything; It's the ONLY thing!"

I summon these quotes because they're designed to have what psychologists refer to as, "sleeper" effects. Like messages in bottles, they're cast across our consciousness from the land of our youth, and they're intended to wash up and be read some time later, on a distant shore of adulthood.

We might have goofed about them privately, outside of earshot of our coaches. But if these proclamations didn't rouse us and help us to perform in the games at hand, that grouchy leader with the whistle or clipboard knew these admonitions wouldn't be forgotten, completely.

Some day, circumstances would arrange themselves so we would feel deeply dejected, helpless and hopeless before seemingly overwhelming odds, and a small voice would echo in our mind:

"Winners never quit and quitters never win!"

And like Rocky Balboa, we'd struggle to our feet and miraculously knock out anything or anyone standing in our way.

Well, looking at our economy and world events, it seems like a fine time to deliberately awaken these sleeper messages, and to put them to work.

If you have ever played sports or striven in any competitive environment, you already have what it takes to respond to adversity. Recall all of the steps you took to achieve in those arenas.

Remember as well, the self-doubts you overcame. Because now, we have a chance to prove, yet again, what we're made of, who we are, and what we can do when we want to, and need to.

Someday, when these difficulties are overcome, you'll look back and realize times were hard, "But YOU DID IT HARD," as motivational speaker Les Brown would say.

When Preparation Meets Opportunity - Creating Good Habits

You must be ready when an opportunity comes before you, opportunity often comes in the form of work and that's why most people seem to miss it. Most people are too busy looking for the easy path through life. They seem to lay around waiting for the opportunity of a lifetime,... to simply fall at your feet.

Why would you want to spend so much time complaining about something, or someone? Other people can help you along the way, if you let them, but it's up to you, ultimately, to become the most you can possibly be. I have had plenty of opportunities in my life and have took advantage of some, while letting most of them pass by.

I'm no different than most people but now seem to be aware of my surrounding opportunities, all the time.

How many times do you wish for an opportunity to come along? It's probably one that you missed already, at some point during your life. Are you going to be prepared for the next opportunity when it comes along? These opportunities seem to repeat themselves throughout our lives and if we're not in the right state of mind, we often overlook them and let them pass by, time and time again.

You need to prepare yourself in advance for the next opportunity. If you are prepared and have your eyes open, you will be able to see the next opportunity that comes your way. Preparation will increase your chances for success and good fortune always.

Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes. Be on the lookout, when you're walking to the grocery store, taking a break at work, reading the newspaper, talking to your neighbor, walking down the street or even while you are sitting alone, letting your mind wander away. Your chances for success could come while your in your quiet places, or relaxing. Be prepared.

Use of Stones to Enhance Feng Shui

(1) Hang a quartz on top of each door if you have two doors face to face with one another. The occupants in the rooms with door facing each other would end up having a quarrelsome relationship. In Chinese, door is symbolized by the pictorial character of a mouth, and when two doors are opposite each other they are just like two mouths confronting each other. I recommend rose quartz to improve and harmonise relationship.

(2) Hand a quartz from the ceiling half way between two doors which are in alignment. Best to use a natural quartz which is faceted cut. It is inauspicious to have two doors in straight alignment in any building; they are called heart piercing doors.

(3) Place a geode of amethyst on the left hand corner of the room diagonally opposite the entrance into a room. That is the wealth corner. Can also use quartz ball or aventurine balls. (100 mm and above in diameter).

(4) If you need to protect your main door from unwelcome intrusions - negative spirits, place a large crystal ball or an amethyst geode opposite the door.

(5) If you have the foot of the bed facing the door to your bedroom, you are likely to be inflicted with ailments affecting your legs. I place two tektites (can use smoky quartz, black tourmaline or black obsidian) below the bed to neutralize the adverse radiation caused by this inauspicious positioning of the bed.

(6) If you have windows facing inauspicious position and objects in the landscape outside your house - sharp corners, railway tracks, hang faceted cut quartz ball from the windows. The quartz ball exposed to sunlight will also reflect rainbow colour lights into the room, making it charged with positive and lively energy.

(7) If you have a toilet entrance facing your bed, or dinner table, you can also hang stones - smoky quartz - from the toilet door to neutralize the Ying damaging energy.

(8) If you need to protect your house from thieves and even negative spirits, use a laser quartz and trace the outlines of the doors and windows you wish to protect. Visualise brilliant laser white beams from the laser quartz forming an energy frame protecting the doors and windows.

(9) Fossilized Wood brings luck and offers protection against negativity. Good to hang them on the front door, with your house number or name of the family craved on it.

(10) For couples having fertility problems, place either amethyst or agate geode or rose quartz in the bedroom near to the bed. Rose quartz is good to promote harmonious relationship between husband and wife.

(11) In your office, if you suspect your colleagues are plotting or backstabbing you, place a quartz cluster on the upper right hand corner of your working desk.

(12) In your office, if you have a window behind you, make sure the curtains are always drawn up and try to place a large rock - jasper, smoky quartz or elestial quartz, on the window ledge to make sure you have the support of your bosses and colleagues.

(13) To help your children to concentrate better in their studies and to protect their eyesight, place amethyst stones on their study tables - preferable amethyst generator (with either natural or cut or single pointed termination and a stable base at the bottom).

(14) Place tumbled quartz in front of your computer monitor to screen away the harmful radiations from the devices. Have to cleanse the stones once a fortnight by either salt water, or burying them in the garden overnight and thereafter expose to the morning sun to charge them up for reuse.

(15) To protect your toilet from negative energy, put tumbled white calcite nuggets in a glass bowl in the toilet. Make sure you cleanse the stones periodically, once a fortnight. (Can use sea salt and keep them in glass bowl overnight in toilet. Next morning flush away the salt into toilet bowl and replace them with new salt.)

Feng Shui Can Improve Romance This Valentine's Day

What's intrinsically romantic about candlelight, soft music, and a crackling fire? Nothing, of course--these classic Valentine's traditions are just simple alterations to our environment that allow us to relax and focus on the other person. Valentine's Day is a perfect example of how sensitive we are to our surroundings, and how a few interior changes dramatically alters our mood. What's more, there are other simple changes we can make in our surroundings through the art of Feng Shui that will encourage closeness all year long.

Feng Shui is concerned with the energy of objects and energy's flow in a room or house. Sensitive creatures that we are to our environment, our relationships are also subject to the energy of our surroundings. And Feng Shui is gaining attention as a powerful tool for improving all kinds of relationships, from difficult to comfortable and dull.

But before you start moving things around or making changes to your environment, it's important to clarify exactly what you want to change. Called "setting your intention," this is a crucial first step that will guide your subsequent actions. Perhaps you want to strengthen or rekindle the flame of an existing relationship, or attract an exciting new romantic partner to your life. Possibly you want to find a life partner to share the future. There can be a variety of issues or scenarios, so it is important to begin by considering your current situation and recognizing what you would like to change.

More specifically, if you have a current relationship that you would like to improve, what is it that you'd like to improve? Do you want more passion in your relationship? More time together? Better communication? Start by becoming clear about exactly what the relationship is like now and how you would like it to change. When it does change, what will that look like? How will you feel?

If you don't have a current relationship but would like one, what kind of relationship would you like? Are you looking for a partner to have fun and go out with? Is your goal to get married? What qualities are you looking for in this person? It's important to be as clear and specific as possible.

After setting a clear intention, there are several things you can do that can enhance the flow of positive energy in the home, creating a more conducive environment in which to achieve your desires. A few basic tips include:

To symbolize a close relationship, it is important to position decorative items in pairs. For instance, display a painting of a couple, place two ornaments together, or hang two pictures that form a set. Two flowers in a vase or two stuffed animals beside one another are other examples of pairs that you can place in your environment.

If you already have a partner whom you wish to become closer to, it is important to display photos that feature only you both as a couple. Pictures of you with your partner and other individuals, whether family or friends, symbolize your propensity to give up time as a couple in order to become part of a larger group.

Clutter and other distractions in the bedroom, such as exercise equipment, a television, work-related items or a computer, serve to bring unwanted distractions into your relationship. Your bedroom should be a sanctuary that feels romantic and invites you to spend time with your loved one.

Make sure that the side of your bed is not against a wall because this position symbolizes only one way in and out of the bed and indicates that there is room for only one person.

When you make your bed, keep it relatively uncluttered and create a space that will easily accommodate a couple (not too many decorative pillows).

Master bedrooms ideally feature warm, soothing colors, such as cream, taupe, cocoa, or shades with a red or pink base. Such warm bedroom colors represent warm, close relationships.

When you remove clutter, don't move anything to a storage box under your bed. People store all kinds of things under the bed - fire extinguishers, ladders, guns, papers, books, exercise equipment and more. Remember that, based on the principles of Feng Shui, energy should freely flow throughout a space, including under the bed.

Large bedrooms should feature cozy, intimate nooks, such as sitting areas. Again, creating an intimate space reflects an intimate relationship.

One word of caution: once you start changing the energy in this way to create a more positive relationship things will start to change. That means that if your current relationship is not ideal for both of you, then you may find yourself drifting apart - that's be-cause it's the best thing for each person concerned. It's important not to fight it - what you will find is a relationship that does work for you.

Let's face it, our relationships do not always go as smoothly as we would like. Whether we're dealing with our partner, children, coworkers, friends or even mailman, our interactions with others can be tricky. As we struggle to make things work, often spending considerable time and emotional energy to figure out why certain relationships seem so difficult, many people fail to look at their environment as a factor in the way they manifest their lives. Yet for those who become familiar with the principles and practice of Feng Shui, the results can be remarkable.

Buddhism Religion Being Adopted in Many Facets

The Buddhism religion is growing in popularity. Many people are turning to Buddhism as a way of bringing peace and happiness into their lives. They enjoy the ritualized chants, meditations and lifestyle practices that the Buddhist religion offers.

The real secret to Buddhism, for those who are not aware of the faith, is that anyone can practice it. You can certainly enjoy and employ certain aspects that could enhance your life. Many people utilize Buddhism in some way every day but just do not realize it. It may be Buddhist art, meditation, a visit to a Zen garden or even yoga.

Yes, most Buddhists have a Buddha statue to look to for guidance and as a way to keep in touch with the Buddhism religion. Many people find the Indian and Tibetan artwork very relaxing and have incorporated it into their decor for their homes. With very pleasing color tones and a sense of tranquility, the Buddhist art is transforming many bedrooms and work places into Zen meditation retreats.

Speaking of meditation, the art of meditation practice is one that everyone should learn. It is a way to clear the mind and rid the body of stress. If you have had a bad time at work or you are under considerable family stress, meditation may be just what you need to find relaxation and a way to work through those problems. You do not have to assume some of the more traditional poses for meditation. Simply sit in a chair with your back straight, shoulders squared and your feet planted firmly.

You will then take in deep breaths through the nose and exhale slowly through the mouth. While performing this breathing exercise you should begin working on clearing your mind. This mini "meditation retreat" can help you relieve the stress and tension in your body. If you devote just ten or fifteen minutes a day to this when things get stressful, then you will be able to tackle those touchy situations in no time at all. It will give you the time you need to think clearly.

One aspect of the Buddhism religion that is practiced in gyms across the world is yoga. This form of exercise allows you to assume different positions and relieve the stress and anxiety that may be plaguing you. If you need help getting started or simply want more information, then there are many books on Buddhism for sale in your local bookstore or you can check them out at your local library.

How Do I Know What The Universe

Philosophy in a Nutshell - Freedom Versus Determinism

Two of the most important and most noble purposes of philosophy are to promote intellectual independence and to awaken the thirst for wisdom. Put simply, philosophy aims to get individuals to think, hopefully to ponder deeply about more fundamental issues than those which occupy most of our everyday lives. A brief examination of the issue of freedom versus determinism helps to define the scope of philosophy and related controversies.

Theories concerned with the issue of freedom versus determinism seek to discover the cause of human behavior. Are human actions predictable in a scientific manner? In other words, are there laws of nature, though complex and largely unknown, which would tell us exactly what a person will do in a given situation and which completely rule out any other possibility? This view, known as determinism, has been bolstered since the sixteenth century by the scientific principle of universal causation: every event has a cause and predictions of results can be made with total accuracy.

Hard determinism further holds that moral responsibility is incompatible with universal causation. Soft determinism argues that some behavior is free of compulsion so that people can be held morally responsible. Libertarians maintain that human beings do possess freedom of action. Otherwise, libertarians claim, human deliberation is an illusion. This, they assert, would be absurd. Furthermore, libertarians believe that exact laws of human behavior will always be elusive. Human behavior will therefore remain unpredictable and uncontrollable. In addition to this, a society perfected through application of science to produce specific human behaviors would be morally unacceptable.

This process of questioning the very foundations of life takes a certain amount of courage and psychological fortitude. Independence of thought is critical for a free society, and philosophy aims to spur us on to deep thought about the things that matter in life.

Following Old Religious Text - Religion

Most people tend to bury their head in the sand when it comes to problems with their family, community, job, government and of course religious beliefs. They don't want to hear the truth and often they can't see the truth. I have read many religious text, books and other literature, missing some very important parts and only when I reread the information, did I find what I have missed. Sometimes I have needed to read or listen to the same information over 30 times, before it becomes somewhat clear to me.

Most religions are living in the dark ages. From what I gather, Hinduism is over 4000 years old, Judaism is around 2500 years old, Christianity is 2000 years old and Islam is about 1400 years old. People are following information today that isn't necessarily applicable to modern times but often religious leaders can twist it around, add some verbiage, make a semi-educated judgment and now we have something we can follow. It just doesn't make sense.

Why do we put so much faith in religious books like the Bible, Torah, Bhagavad-Gita and Quran, when these books cannot be proven and often have many mistakes and errors. I know people that open these books very carefully and treat them like they are made from solid gold. They are books like any others but often people live their lives from the information inside, strictly and religiously. Often never straying from their beliefs, even though they're outdated and hard to follow.

Let me get to the bottom line here, have you researched your religion and if you have, do you have any questions that can't be answered? Do you read any of the religious text and often wonder or think to yourself, this doesn't seem to make sense, because you just read something else that was contradicting the last statement.

You can handle the truth about your religion. By reading this article, it tells me that you're on the Internet, can you go to a search engine and type in Bible contradictions, Torah contradictions, or whatever your beliefs are. I was searching for errors in the Bible and came upon a couple of pretty good web sites.

Use words like contradiction, problems, errors and see what websites you come up with.

Seek the wisdom and the truth shall set you free.

The Heretic's Daughter - Religion, Fear and the Salem Witch Trials

The Heretic's Daughter is author Kathleen Kent's first novel, and it is a stunning debut. It takes place in and around Salem, Massachusetts during the 1690's, before and during the infamous Salem witch trials. The narrator's mother, Martha Carrier, is based on the real woman of the same name, who was one of the first woman to be tried and hung in the trials. Ms. Kent is herself a tenth generation descendant of Martha Carrier.

Ms. Kent has done her research, and she does a beautiful job of depicting the harsh realities of life during this time. While the initial Puritan settlers had come to this land to escape persecution, and hoped to found a new religious community, they were besieged by plagues, crop failures, and attacks by indigenous tribes. The child mortality rate was so high, we are told in the first pages, "that some families did not name their child until the child was past twelve months and more likely to live. And in many households if a baby died, that same baby's name would be passed on to the next born. And to the very next if that babe died as well."

This is from the novel's narrator, Sarah Carrier, Martha Carrier's daughter. If Sarah sometimes seems distant and unfeeling as she describes horrific events, it is no wonder, based on the climate in which she was raised. In fact, Sarah's voice and attitude was at first a put-off to me, making her difficult to relate to or feel for. But as the novel progresses, her voice becomes one of the book's greatest strengths, because it provides such a vast contrast to our emotion-laden, Oprah-fueled times. Sarah helps us to see what a stark and difficult existence does to people, and as she does mature - through watching her mother's trial and surviving her own incarceration - her growth and new-found wisdom is that much more evident.

As the novel begins, Sarah and her family are on their way to live with her grandmother, and, unbeknown to them, are bringing smallpox with them to their new community. This fact, along with Martha Carrier's headstrong and outspoken nature, will ultimately lead to the family becoming a target when the terrible accusations begin. Those accusations, as presented in The Heretic's Daughter, gain traction in the community because of the lethal combination of fear and damnation-based religion. The community, facing so many challenges to its existence, cannot fathom why they are being targeted by God for such wrath. Surely there must be some offense, some sin, that they are being punished for? In their desperation, they seek out the 'sinners' amongst them, literally demonizing their own neighbors for the smallest of offenses. They seek to scapegoat and purge - as so many have done in the name of religion throughout history.

From there, the paralysis of fear takes over, with each new charge silencing more people within the community, all seeking to protect their own lives and families. Children as young as four are taken into custody - since the 'devil' is behind it all, and can take over anyone's mind, no one is considered innocent. Quite the contrary, during the trials the defendants are most definitely considered guilty until proven innocent. And their innocence is in the hands of several hysterical, adolescent girls no less (I'll let you read the book to learn more about this.)

One of the most touching aspects of the book is how Martha gets Sarah to save herself, helping Sarah to realize that behind her mother's stern exterior lies the greatest of maternal loves. While Sarah at first despises her mother's difficult personality, wishing she would just capitulate to others, she comes to realize her mother's seeming obstinance is actually born of tremendous faith and wisdom. This is exactly the opposite of what her community elders teach - that strict obedience is the foundation for faith. As Sarah observes, that obedience, along with fear, is what allows the madness to continue for so long.

And so The Heretic's Daughter works on at least three levels. First, as a gripping historical novel that masterfully depicts a certain setting and time period. Second, as a personal story of a mother and adolescent daughter struggling to understand each other. And third, as a cautionary tale about how religion can be twisted when a society is ruled by fear.

Weight Loss Spells For Those Interested in Witchcraft and Magick

Weight loss spells are becoming more and more popular. Both female and male witches alike often cast weight loss spells with hopes of obtaining their "dream bodies." A weight loss spell falls into the same category of "beauty spells" and "glamor spells." But do they really work?

Weight loss spells don't just magically work in the sense that they *poof!* make the witch thinner, but they can help the witch become more motivated to work out and to eat healthier. In order to lose weight, healthy eating and working out are always the most important things to do. But neither can be done if the witch has no willpower. Thankfully, a weight loss spell can help with that.

If you're interested in witchcraft and weight loss, here is a spell you can try:

Every Friday night for a month, light some white and pink candles (or red if you're a male witch or mage. I won't make you light pink ones.) Drink at least one full cup of water before, during, and after the spell. Have some jasmine incense burning as well, if you're not allergic to it. During the spell, while drinking the water, look in front of a full length mirror and visualize yourself shrinking and becoming thinner. Try imagining that you actually FEEL yourself getting thinner. Spend a few minutes doing this while saying this mantra:

"Extra weight go away, Venus be with me this day. Give me the strength, give me the power. I shall lose weight starting this hour."

Say this over and over again while visualizing yourself getting thinner.

After the weight loss spell is over, snuff the candles out and then set them in a private place until the next Friday. You may resume where you left off every Friday night until you begin noticing differences in your eating habits. Don't forget to thank Venus often.

If you are interested in a weight loss spell or any other type of spell, this is a great site to visit: http://www.AvonleeStarkeeper.com At this site you will find tips on love spells, money spells, luck spells, justice spells, REIKI, psychic readings, and more!

Can You Tell the Difference Between Evil Profits and Good Profits?

I was reading through an article the other day about the Wiccan religion and they were very upset about a comment that the Christian website owner had made. I would like you to read the response from the Christians first.

"I was watching a police show on television some time ago, and saw a sting operation in which undercover police officers bought drugs from dealers on the street. Invariably, some of the dealers would ask, "You a cop?" The officer would say "no," and the deal was made. Satan often goes undercover. The Bible tells us that he can even masquerade as an angel of light. Just because a certain religion professes no belief in Satan, does not mean its adherents are not falling for his lies. It just means that they're unaware that they are. You said God would be disgusted by our judgmentalism. God has told us in His Word (The Bible) to watch for false prophets and false apostles. God has told us to contend for the faith. He has told us to evangelize. In other words, God has told us to do just what we are doing."

Here's something I would like you to think about if you consider yourself a Christian, read this very carefully.

"God has told us in his Word the Bible to watch for false prophets and false apostles." I would like you to read this statement a couple of times and see if you agree with it. How can you possibly tell who the false prophets are? Do you think that because you are a Christian and believe in Jesus or God, that you will know the difference between a evil profit and a godly one?

I often write articles and have written quite a few of them about religion and Christianity. Seems to be the one that I know the most about, so it gets the most attention from me. If I was to make a statement like the Bible has contradictions in it, would you consider me an evil profit. Someone working for the Devil. I don't think so, because it doesn't make sense, how could you turn a truth full statement into evil prophesies.

If I was to introduce you to a hundred people, could you tell me by looking at them or talking to them, which ones are evil and which ones are good. Most Christians would probably respond to that with, God knows and that's good enough for me. Everyone else who talks bad about Christianity will be considered evil or searching for the truth. They just haven't found Jesus yet, is that right, is that what you believe.

I found this response to the Wiccan believer to be one that I run into often. It seems unfair to others who aren't Christians and one-sided. Most organized religions have answers for everything, the problem is that some of the times these answers don't make any sense at all. If you're going to follow this part of the Bible word for word, shouldn't you follow all of the Bible word for word.

Leviticus 14:9 On the seventh day he must shave off all his hair; he must shave his head, his beard, his eyebrows and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water, and he will be clean.

Leviticus 19:27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

This will make Christians easier to spot, a bald head with long beards.

Build a Solar Hot Water Heater

It's entirely possible to heat your water with solar energy, while saving money on your energy bill. You can also help clean up the environment by using solar power instead of using polluting fossil fuels. And if you want, you can even build your own solar water heater.

Building a solar hot water heater is actually not that hard. Although there are many designs and systems, a few of them are relatively simple. It's the ideal do-it-yourself project, if you are so inclined.

Here is one of the simplest types of DIY (do-it-yourself) projects for solar hot water heating. But don't let the term "simple" fool you into thinking that this is not an effective way to reduce your energy bill.

The basic design of a Batch Solar Hot Water Heater consists simply of a water tank within an insulated box with a glass top.

It is used to preheat water before it enters your conventional water heater, thus cutting down on the amount of conventional energy needed in order to get the water to the required temperature.

But keep in mind, on sunny days a batch heater can eliminate the need for conventional heating entirely. Even on overcast days it can reduce the load on your conventional water heater.

Basic Parts of a Batch Solar Water Heater

Lets define the basic parts you need for your batch solar hot water heater:

A place in the sun - this can be in the yard, garden, up against the wall, etc. It doesn't matter where, as long as it is able to receive sunlight throughout the day.

- You need a solar collector - This is simply an insulated box with a glazed top or front to let in sunlight.

- Water tank: this is placed inside the solar collector to serve as your water heater. * Some water pipes and fittings - You will need these in order to connect your cold water supply to your conventional heating system.

How to Calculate the Size of Your Batch Solar Water Heater

If you want your heater to work, you will have to calculate your sizes correctly. First of all, we are aiming to get it to heat water to about 110-120F on a sunny day.

To ensure that you actually achieve this temperature within a reasonable amount of time you want to take to following into account:

For about every square foot of glazing on the enclosure of your water heater, you will be able to heat about 1-2 gallons of water.

Long narrow tanks are therefore most effective, as they tend to have a larger surface area, allowing for more glazing and thus more solar heating.

Positioning of a Batch Solar Water Heater

Mounting tanks upright or vertically gives you the best result. This is because of stratification (layering of water with higher temperatures at the top) of the water.

Putting your water-out connection at the top of the tank will always give you the hottest possible water if you have positioned your tank vertically.

Insulating Your Solar Water Heater

Mounting tanks upright or vertically gives you the best result. This is because of stratification (layering of water with higher temperatures at the top) of the water. Making your water out connection at the top of the tank will always give you the hottest possible water if you have positioned your tank vertically.

One of the major factors that makes your solar heater work is proper insulation. If you do not properly insulate the enclosure of your water tank, you will lose a lot of the efficiency of your solar hot water heater.

But a well-constructed, well-insulated box with double glazing will serve adequately as your solar collector.

Painting the water tank a dull black color will also assist in heating the water.

The usual position for a batch water heater is on the ground, beside the south wall of your home (unless you live in the Southern Hemisphere, in which case you would position it beside the north wall of the house).

Take care to ensure that any pipes leading to and from the heater are insulated, so as to avoid frost damage.

Religious Fundamentalism Can Create Problems

Religious groups can easily justify their actions by using religious text to benefit and promote their beliefs. The Muslims can sling quotes out of the Quran to justify their treatment towards women as second-class or even third class citizens in society, often removing certain rights from them because they weren't born men.

Shouldn't these women be treated equally. This is where religious fundamentalism evolves into religious fanaticism.

Christians can often use the same tactics to justify their beliefs and Christianity. This list goes on and on and has created hardships in the past on some people in our civilizations and will continue to do so in the future. As long as people continue to turn a blind eye to evil religious and government leaders, atrocities will take place and some of them will even be supported by those who eventually will become accused are victims of their own wrongdoings.

Does anyone remember the Ku Klux Klan? If you live in the south eastern part of the United States, there is a very good chance that you have heard of them or even know someone who belongs to this organization. The Ku Klux Klan was responsible for hanging African Americans throughout the early 1900s to prove that the white race was superior to the race of black people. Their religious beliefs fueled them with righteousness.

If this going on anywhere in the world today, may be issues about abortion or gay marriage. It seems like an oxymoron, if we allow gay people to get married, we won't have to worry about the abortion issue.

Some Christians, but most Americans look at this as a shameful part of our American heritage. It's not something that most Americans would ever support today. I would like to point something out about the Ku Klux Klan, they started out as a Christian organization and made examples out of other white people who weren't conforming to their ideal Christian society.

There are stories of people that abused their wives and the Ku Klux Klan set them straight, one way or another. If it required beating the crap out of them or killing them, something needed to be done and they are morally obligated to perform the task as Christians. These people took their Christian beliefs to an extreme.

When are we as a country and the world going to start fighting religious fundamentalism at its core and stop the atrocities that are going on today, using religion to justify their wrongdoings.

Provide Your Own Power With Solar Energy

As environmental awareness increases, and people look for ways to lower their energy bills, alternative sources of energy have been getting more and more attention. There has been a recent surge of interest in solar energy lately, partly due to technological advances that have made solar power much more affordable. Solar energy is the most abundant energy resource available, and gives off more energy than any source on earth. Unfortunately, most of the solar energy that reaches the earth is not being harnessed.

What Are The Advantages Of Solar Power?

One of the primary advantages of solar power is the cost. A commercially available solar power cell can be purchased for around $500, and it will help to drastically reduce your monthly expenses. If this is still out of your price range, you'll be happy to know that it is actually possible to build solar panels and cells yourself, right at home. Instructions for doing this can be found in many places online, and will tell you exactly what you need to do in order to start collecting solar energy for your own home.

Another advantage of using solar power is the independence it gives you. This means that is a storm knocks out power lines in your area, you may not be affected by it.

How Do I Start Using Solar Power?

You will need solar panels to collect the sunlight, and a solar power cell to store it. You can either buy these items commercially, or you can build them yourself. Details on how to build them are too involved for this short article, but can be found by getting a guide on the internet.

I've had a chance to review most of the guides available on how to build your own solar panels, and I've narrowed it down to the 3 that are the best value for your money.

=> Top 3 Guides <=

There are a lot of scams out there, and people selling solar power systems that just don't work. That's why I've put together these reviews for you.

Wind Generated Power

Wind generated power is being used from ages past. In the past it was used in flour mills and even to pump water. But we have realized the power that wind has in it and it is this power that can be used as an alternative source for electricity. With the depleting levels of fossil fuels and the increasing rates for electricity it is high time we decide on using such alternative forms of energy.

Not only are we going to save money, but we are saving the earth too. With nuclear energy being used as one of the sources for energy, the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere is growing to such high levels that the issue of global warming is catching everybody's attention. Is there a solution to all these problems? Well, the use of renewable sources of energy like the sun light, the wind generated power etc are sure fire solutions that do work.

If you want to install such a unit for wind generated power and if you find the rates of installing one, you will sure find atrocious prices. The best way to go about this is to use the resources that are easily available in our homes and even in the nearby hardware stores and construct our own wind mill that results in wind generated power.

All you need to set up the instrument that gives you wind generated power is an installation guide and the right components. The most important consideration for this is the location where you will be building this. You need to make sure that the area has a free flowing current of wind most of the time. Selection of such areas will make sure that you have an efficient system that produces wind generated power to the maximum.

You can look up Earth4Energy for more details about wind generated power. The guide that is available is a storehouse of information that will guide you in the right manner to enable you to set up your system.

Tips to Generate Wind Power Electricity

If you are someone worried by your rising energy bills, then wind power electricity might be the best solution for you. Research statistics show that you can save over 70 percent on your energy bills with wind power. Building your own windmill can help you save tons of money in the long run. It is not surprising then that an increasing number of people these days are going in for building their own windmills.

The benefits of using wind power electricity, apart from the money that you can save, are many. For instance, this clean alternative source of energy can help in reducing green house gas emissions to a very large extent. Another advantage is that wind power is a renewable source of energy. One need not worry about it running out during any point in time, as in the case with some other sources of energy.

Generating wind power electricity has become a lot easier nowadays. There are several do it yourself kits available in the market, that can help you build your own windmill. The typical working mechanism of a windmill involves the rotation of the blades by currents of wind, which in turn turns the shaft located in the generator motor. The turning of the shaft leads to generation of electricity. Building one to generate wind power electricity is not difficult, provided you know what are the parts that need to be used and the method involved in constructing one. Getting the correct parts and then assembling them in the right manner is the key to constructing your own windmill. Choosing a good location to install your windmill is another thing that is important. Once you take care of these aspects, you are well on your way to enjoying the benefits of generating wind power electricity.

Why Solar Energy? - 5 Reasons to Use Solar Energy

Many of us are aware of the changes being made to our climate causing weather patterns to severely alter around the globe but what are the major factors attributed to this anomaly? One of the major factors to Global warming as it's called is the emissions of Carbon Dioxide from power stations still burning fossil fuels.

Relying on coal oil and natural gas endangers our future. Toxic pollution global climate changes and the knowledge of diminishing fuel supplies is causing social unrest but we are adding to all this every time we use electricity. Instead of continually using fossil fuels that are unsustainable we should be looking to transform our world economy and global warming by using the alternative renewable energy that's so abundant on our planet, namely solar energy.

Here are 5 reasons why we should be using Solar Energy

1. All over the States people have been left without power. In California alone over the past few years Millions have constantly experiencing power cuts. Experts tell us this is just the begriming.

2. The Earth's population is estimated to reach 10 billion over the next 40 years so with energy sources depleting rapidly now is the time to make more use of Solar Energy for our power electricity needs.

3. Solar energy is clean, easy to use and solar panels and solar installation kits are constantly being improved upon while coming down in price.

4. Cost Effective: Using Solar energy to run electrical item in our homes was once thought of as too expensive but after the initial installation has been paid for there are no ongoing cost's so it's more cost effective in the long run.

Just think, the cost of electricity on the Grid is constantly increasing so by installing your own solar power you could pay off the installation fees in a few years easily from the amount you will be saving.

5. It may surprise you to learn that just a small fraction of the solar radiation that hits the earth could in fact replace the worlds energy consumption. Take into account that sunlight is a free commodity and you have another reason to use Solar Energy.

So to recap on why we should be using Solar Energy to replace fossil fuels. It's cleaner, it's not toxic, homes do not have to be connected to a national grid allowing remote places the luxury of electricity.

The earths population is increasing rapidly while our natural resources are depleting making it imperative that we use an alternative energy supply. And lastly it's a free resource that's in constant abundance.

Saving money is great but saving the planet is something we should all be doing our part in. By installing solar panels you will save money on electricity bills and help save the planet. Ways To Make Your Kitchen More Energy Efficient And Save Money

a) Kitchen Appliances
Install energy efficient labelled kitchen appliances (refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes washers). Every kitchen appliance has two price tags a purchase price and the operating cost. Energy efficient models will save you money and use less energy.

b) Lighting
- Install energy efficient labelled lighting (e.g., light fixtures: suspended lights, ceiling-mounted lights, cabinet lights, recessed lights, and compact fluorescent bulbs).

c) Refrigerator
- In most households, the refrigerator is the single biggest energy consuming kitchen appliance. Energy efficient refrigerator models use high efficiency compressors, improved insulation, and more precise temperature and defrost mechanisms to improve energy efficiency. Energy efficient refrigerators provide energy savings without sacrificing the features you want.

- Keep your refrigerator and freezer filled for most economical operation. Less cold air is lost when the door is opened in a filled refrigerator because the food helps retain the cold.

- Allow foods to partially cool before placing them in the refrigerator. It takes more energy to cool hot food. For added savings, cover foods and liquids. The moisture that is released by uncovered containers increases energy use during the refrigerator's defrost cycle.

- Select a refrigerator with a freezer on top. A side-by side unit uses up to 20 percent more energy. The Energy Guide label will help you choose the most efficient model.

d) Oven
- Don't open the oven door to take a peek at what's cooking inside. Instead, turn on the oven light and check the cooking status through the oven window. Opening the oven door lowers the temperature inside - by as much as 25 degrees - which increases cooking time and wastes energy.

-As long as your oven is on, cook several items at the same time. Just make sure you leave enough room for the heat to circulate around each item.

- In an electric oven, you can turn the heat off several minutes before your food is fully cooked. As long as the oven door remains closed, enough heat will be stored inside to finish cooking your meal.

e) Dishwasher
- Let your dishes air dry. A dishwasher uses more energy to dry dishes than to wash them. If your dishwasher doesn't have an automatic air-dry switch, turn off the control knob after the final rinse and prop the door open to let moisture escape.

- When purchasing a dishwasher, look for energy saving features such as a short wash cycle. Shorter washing cycles, with fewer rinses, save water and water-heating energy.

- Use your dishwasher only for full loads. Be sure your dishwasher is full, but not overloaded when you turn it on. Improper loading can result in poorly cleaned dishes that need to be rewashed.

- Install your dishwasher away from your refrigerator. The dishwasher's heat and moisture make the refrigerator work harder. Keep your refrigerator away from other heat sources such as direct sunlight.

f) Kitchen Walls, Windows and Doors
- If your remodelling plans include opening walls you could improve your comfort and the energy efficiency of your home by adding insulation and air sealing. If you are replacing the windows, doors, and skylights, install those with the energy efficient label to make your kitchen the most energy efficient on the block.

Make Your Own Energy

It is a practical and inexpensive solution these days to make your own energy through the construction of either a solar or wind powered generator. While the application of a renewable energy system is much easier than most people imagine it to be, it is important to get yourself grounded in a few important concepts before you begin. The expression 'energy' is used in a lot of contexts, and it is necessary to at least be familiar with what exactly this word means before you begin to investigate renewable energy capacity and design.

People often mix up the terms 'energy', 'power' and 'work'. Energy refers to the ability of a system to cause an exterior impact or force. There are many different forms of energy, however, if you are interested in making renewable energy, the end product you will be looking for is electrical energy. The demand for energy worldwide has increased dramatically in recent decades and years, with so many fossil fuels now being used to create energy that we are on the edge of environmental catastrophe. If you are one of the people who is looking for a solution to this problem, the creation of your own energy making system is a great place to start.

Wind and solar energy are readily available if you have the systems to capture them, and building these systems is not nearly as difficult as many people think. The sun is the largest energy resource that we know, and it makes complete sense that we begin to utilise it more often to power our lives and help undo the damage that we have done to our environment. The wind, too, is absolutely everywhere and fairly easy to capture and turn into usable energy for our homes. If you are interested in either constructing a solar system through photovoltaics or a simple wind turbine for your home, there is a fantastic online resource that you can download that will give you all of the instructions that you need to get started.

How to Make Your Own Power Living Off the Grid

Making your own power and living off the grid is actually much easier than most people think. For some reason just the promt at the mere idea of an undertaking of such a project seems to imply complexities to most. There are several methods for creating off grid energy all of which are very easy to implement. The only really important component is the power source itself. Important and very necessary. The methods that will be discussed in this article uses the wind and the sun as the power sources. These power sources are considered renewable power sources because they are continuous and everlasting and don't need any type of interaction from man to work.

The most common type of sun activated energy source is very familiar to most people. Solar energy is the energy source being referred to. Solar energy is created from photovoltiac cells which are activated when the sun's rays are directly on them. Each one of these cells produces very little energy alone and would do very little by way of making enough energy to power a home, however when many of them are grouped together, making up what is better known as solar panels, the energy created is astounding and creates enough energy to power appliances, lights, and just about anything else that a home owner or outdoorsman wishes to operate. Solar panels while are expensive if purchased from a retail store are not all that difficult to build at home and at a very small fraction of the cost of retail solar panels.

The second energy source is wind energy. Wind energy is the most popular type of renewable energy and it is used to turn a propeller which activates a generator that creates electricity much in the very same way as an automobile creates power to keep it's battery charged. In order to use this method in a living off the grid setting the generator is mounted 50-60 feet off the ground for the best results inside a shell with a propeller on it's exterior to catch the wind. A wind generator is not at all complicated to make and instructions on what you need for parts and how to figure out out just what you'll need comes with kit plans. The parts for generators are few and are easy to come by. The entire procedure may take an average person a couple of days to do after all parts are rounded up with most set ups.

For the novice or anyone, for that matter, who wishes to build their own homemade wind generator to start producing their own off the grid energy there are plans available that are very specific that also have easy to read text tutorials and or video tutorials that will allow you to build your own generator. Usually there is some type of support in place to ensure that your build goes without a hitch. Living off the grid energy is fast becoming the way of the future for powering homes and large factories too. It is a great way to help the environment, save tremendously on power bills, gives home owners incentives like tax breaks by way of tax credits and rebates, and they are a good way to increase property value.

Go Green and Save Money With Your Energy Bill

The times they are a changin' and these days all of us want to reduce our carbon footprints and help save the earth. If you want to go green then there are many steps that you can take to help reduce your drain on the earth's resources and also help stop the drain on your bank balance. This article will show you how to go green and save money.

The easiest place to start saving money by going green is with your energy bills. Here are the top three things that you can do today that will not only save you money but also save energy:

1. In winter most of us have the thermostat cranked up as high as possible to keep our homes toasty warm, but you can be perfectly comfortable by lowering the temperature a few degrees. To find out what the perfect temperature is for you, each few days lower the temperature by just one degree to see how comfortable that is. Eventually you'll reach a temperature that is still comfortable but much lower than what you have it on now.

Same goes for summer. Keep adjusting the thermostat temperature up a degree every few days until you get to a level you are comfortable with.

2. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL's) use a lot less energy than regular light bulbs. They might be a little bit higher priced to begin with but they will last you substantially longer than regular incandescent bulbs so over the long term work out cheaper. Plus the savings you'll make on your lighting bill is well worth the cost.

3. If you have gone to the hardware store lately to look for power strips, you might have seen these new 'smart' power strips. The work by shutting off the power to your appliances that are not in use. Many people leave big appliances on all the time (such as televisions on standby or the kettle switched on ready to boil water at the next flick of a button) however even though they are not being used they are still using power in this 'stand by' mode. Either switch them off yourself or buy a smart power strip to detect it for you to save money and energy.

There are many simple ways that you can go green and save money at the same time and they don't have to impact on your lifestyle too much. By doing your bit for the environment you'll not only feel good about yourself you'll be making a substantial difference in our earth and your bank balance.

How to Reduce Power Usage in Your Home With a Home Wind Turbine

In school, everyone was taught about the difference between non-renewable and renewable resources. Only recently though, have we begun teaching about the rapid depletion of the non-renewable sources and teh need to utilize the renewable ones. Every single person should be concerned with the world's terrible energy crisis. Luckily, there are a few simple steps you can take to help lower your dependence on fossil fuels, and in the process save money and the world.

Start with your computer. Always shut off your monitor when it's not in use. It takes 1 second to turn it off and on. And if you won't be using the computer at all for a while, shut the computer off as well. Another small and easy step is switching from incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, or CFLs. Although they are a bit more expensive, the power savings more than makes up for the initial cost.

Use your air conditioner wisely. You don't need to turn your house into an icebox to keep cool in the summer. Keep it at a moderate temperature, just enough to cool you off. Air conditioners are one of the major energy wasters. Another major energy waster is the washing machine. Only use it when there is a full load of wash. This saves energy as well as water.

A step you may not have thought off is unplugging the television when not in use. Small steps like this can really begin to add up when put into practice. Minimize hot water usage. It takes a lot of energy to heat up water for extended periods of time. If you normally take long showers, try to take a bath instead.

Refrigeration of food is a major consumer of electricity. Never put hot food in the refrigerator. Allow it to cool down to room temperature first. On the flip side, take cold and frozen dishes out of the refrigerator with enough time to warm up to room temperature to before you heat it. Utilize self sufficient energy sources. A small home wind turbine can be set up for about $200. This will more than pay for itself in a few months and is the biggest and best step you can take for long term energy and cost savings.

I'm currently an environmental science student and after studying the state of the world's resources, I'm doing my best to get people excited about alternate energy. If you're interested in more information about wind power or how to build your own home wind turbine, visit my home wind turbine website.

How Does a Off Grid Home Get Power?

Are you wondering how does a off grid home get power? Most people have the wrong idea that living in an off grid home will require them to give up some modern appliances, so they choose not to explore off grid power options, thinking that they want to keep their lifestyle.

This was exactly what I had been thinking in the past, but today I am producing my own electricity at home and I also have internet, TV and almost every other convenience that you can typically find in modern homes.

1. Is Living Off Grid Worth The Investment?

You will need to invest some money up front to setup your home power system first. Typical renewable energy systems can cost up to $15,000 or more, but there is no need to spend that much money. I chose to build my own homemade system by following the instructions in an online guide that I downloaded on the web. It only costed me a total of around $180 to get the whole system running and it has been working great for me.

2. Do You Need To Give Up Some House Appliances In Order To Live Off Grid?

After researching and trying out the renewable energy system, I have discovered that it is not necessary to sacrifice any of the household appliances in order to run a house off grid.

3. How To Live Off Grid With Solar Energy?

I downloaded a written guide with diagrams that gave me an easy-to-follow system for building a homemade power system. It consists of solar panels and wind turbines and are very easy to understand and setup. Thousands of people have already eliminated their own home electricity bills with this free energy system. They learned how to build it by downloading the step-by-step guide online. You can find out more about how to build this homemade power system at the website link below.

Outside Shutters Can Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

In this era of global warming and climate change, many people are converting their homes into a more energy efficient place. Green building typically means putting more energy efficient appliances in the home, using recycled materials during construction, installing a more sophisticated thermostat, and adding solar powered lighting. However, often overlooked is the source of the climate change problem - the sun.

Using the sun's rays effectively can help to save both energy costs and protect your furniture and carpet from the harmful rays of the sun. A good way to do this is to install functional outside shutters on your home. Functional outside shutters can be closed to keep out the sun's rays in the summer time which will lower your air conditioning costs. In the winter, you can open the external shutters wide to allow the sun to warm your home naturally, which will also make your home more energy efficient.

Many people look at the price of operable outside shutters and the related hardware and they can't see the value of installing something on their windows that costs so much money. However, when you consider that outside shutters do more than make your home more aesthetically appealing and can in fact more than pay for themselves through years of energy savings, you can see that outside shutters really do add value and savings to your home.

Global warming is a reality and unless energy usage in most homes is lowered, climate change is inevitable. You can do your part by making a few improvements to your home such as installing solar powered lights and putting outside shutters on your home's windows.

Of course, in addition to energy efficiency other some other benefits of outside shutters include:

Security - Functional outside shutters can make your home more difficult to break into because they can protect the glass from being easily broken. Also, because they typically latch on the inside, outside shutters make the window opening more difficult to penetrate. Outside shutters can be secured shut whenever you leave town to keep your home safe.

Privacy - Closing your outside shutters can avert your neighbor's prying eyes from penetrating your windows. Whenever you don't feel like having an audience, simply pull your outside shutters closed.

Harsh Weather Protection - If you live in an area that is prone to hurricanes, putting the right outside shutters on your home can protect the glass from shattering in high winds. Outside shutters can also help prevent your skylights from the heavy weight of snow in the winter time.

Solar Control - The ability to control the amount of light in the room with outside shutters can not only lower your energy bills, but also make your home a more comfortable place to live and work. Some operable louvered outside shutters work in 2 ways to control the amount of light that enters your home - they can be opened and closed over the entire window just like other outside shutters, but also the louvers can be opened and closed while the shutters are in the closed position using a tilt rod. This changes the angle of the louvers on the outside shutters thus controlling the amount of light that can pass through. In addition to making your home more comfortable, outside shutters can protect your expensive furniture and carpet from the sun's rays, meaning you will need to replace them less often over the years.

Elegance - Operable outside shutters can move your home up a notch in the pecking order of luxury and add a new dimension to your windows that you didn't have before. Installing functional outside shutters adds both to the perceived value and actual value of your home.

Aesthetics - And of course, the most popular reason to install outside shutters is to make your home more beautiful and to add a touch of personal style to its appearance. This can be done with either functional outside shutters or decorative outside shutters. While decorative shutters don't provide the other benefits listed here, they can make your home a more beautiful place and still add to its overall value.

When considering outside shutters for your home, it is important to realize that there is more to consider than just the price when determining the bottom line. Through years of use, functional outside shutters can pay for themselves many times over by providing other benefits.

Home Made Solar Panels - Cut Your Energy Bills by 80% With DIY Solar Panels!

"Home Made Solar Panels Can Save You $1000s On Your Electricity Bills"

If you're like many folks I know, your home electricity bills are cutting away a HUGE chunk of your hard-earned wages. We're now seeing more and more households turning to solar panels to save them money. But installing commercially-made solar panels in your home can cost you thousands of dollars...a hefty investment, if you ask me. Although that's something that will pay off for you in the long run... do you know there's a far cheaper way to have these energy-saving devices in your home?

There are many folks I know who are turning to DIY home solar panels. This is fast becoming very popular for people who don't mind a little DIY work and some elbow grease to go with that. Best of all, the technology to do-it-yourself has now been put in the hands of the average household and consumer.

If you're looking to build your own home made solar panels, there are essentially 2 kinds of components that will help you in your energy saving project.

Firstly, you can get parts that are already pre-assembled for you. Most of these are pre-made to fit onto your home's roof. All you need to do is to put together the components by following the assembling and installation instructions that come with the product. This is pretty straightforward for most people to handle, but the downside is, you won't have a choice with the solar panel shape and design. You basically have to go with what comes in the package. This also means you may need to modify your roof structure to accommodate the pre-assembled panels. This is not exactly big on flexibility and you may even end up paying extra money for the modifications.

Many people choose to go for the second option. They are building their own solar panels by sourcing and buying their own parts and components. You basically start from ground zero and work your way up to a finished DIY product. It takes a little more time and elbow grease, but this is where the appeal lies. Unlike the first option, you don't have to modify your home to accommodate the panels. You can simply build your own CUSTOMIZED solar panels that can even complement your home's design! The assembly process will take a little longer since you're building from scratch, but installation is far easier.

If you're serious about building your own home solar panels, there are many excellent guides/manuals available online that give you step-by-step instructions, FULL illustrations and even VIDEOS to help you from start-to-finish. Best of all, these guides are not expensive...for $50 or less, you can get a really good quality one that even tells you where to get the components for cheap.

Typically for 200 bucks or less, you can get your home made solar panels up and running in a weekend...and start slashing your monthly energy bills for good!

Want to build your own home made solar panels but don't know where to start?
